it’s so darkly hilarious when Daine first meets Jon
because she very sweetly is all “Me? You’re interested in little old me? Golly gee willikers, I can’t possibly be of interest to the likes of you!”
meanwhile Jon is just profoundly grateful she likes him and Tortall because he was gonna feel really bad if he had to tell her she’s not allowed to ever leave Tortall under pain of death
because no joke, after seeing Daine’s immense and unparalleled power, imagine her being like “Ok well this was fun, it’s been great meeting you and learning about the inner workings of one branch of your military, but I actually think I’m going to go to Carthak now, or Tyra, or Scanra, or even back to Galla, gonna pack up all my godlike magic power and ability to liaise with animals and sense immortal threats before they appear and go visit one of your rival nations and offer them that power now, anyways thanks for everything bye!!”
please, George’s people would have killed her before she had finished packing a single saddlebag, absolutely no way Daine is allowed to just walk out after what they’ve all seen, no fucking way
Daine all perky and happy and amazed anyone at all finds her interesting, Jon awkwardly chuckling while discretely shooing away his lawyers in the corner who are drafting up terms of imprisonment, Onua and Numair just heaving big sighs of relief their new friend is so happy here and things don’t have to go south
One of my favourite little details of Across The Spiderverse is that it fixed my biggest problem with the first film:
The reused Earth numbers.
Into The Spiderverse gave Earth numbers for each universe the characters were from: Earth-616, Earth-65, Earth-1610, etc.
The problem was that those numbers were already in use: they’re the original numbers for comics version of these characters.
There’s two little moments that fix this in Across The Spiderverse. When Gwen goes to see Peter, her watch says she’s jumping to Earth-616B, meaning his universe isn’t the Earth-616 of the comics. And earlier, we see a character who’s noted as Tarantula of Earh-1610A, which would make Movie!Miles’ universe Earth-1610B.
It lets the movies have their cake and eat it too: they get to use the famous numbers for their versions of the characters, while leaving themselves open to use characters from the original universes without it clashing.
I think the portrayal of Spider-Man 2099 in Across the Spider-Verse is in-character in that aside from like Shattered Dimensions he’s always been portrayed as a bit of an asshole who slips into anti-hero territory at times and generally has a “needs of the many over the needs of the few” mindset and given his specific circumstances in the movie it’s not unreasonable to think he could take the actions he does. However it does kinda suck that since like 99% of moviegoers had no idea who he was before the movie came out their first impression of him is when he’s in an antagonistic role and people think “antagonist” and “villain” are synonyms so now I’m gonna have to listen to people who’ve never read a comic saying he’s a villain or isn’t a real Spider-Man for the rest of time or at least until he inevitably changes his mind in the third one.
Queen Alicent Hightower, the second wife of King Viserys Targaryen. A key instigator in the Dance of Dragons, Alicent raised her son Prince Aegon Targaryen as the heir to the iron throne when the named heir was King Viserys’s daughter by his first wife. Alicent was known to wear green, the color of war for her house, and was the cause of the name the Greens. She outlived all four of her children and came to despise the color green.
Shoutout to @dreamsofdany, they were the inspiration behind me putting the names of the character on the art, CHECK THEIR ART OUT RIGHT NOW ITS SO SPECTACULAR!!!!
